Mourinho reinvents Roma’s defense ahead of New Year

Andy Mattioli

Jose Mourinho is considering reverting back to a four-man defense ahead of the New Year.

The Portuguese technician is looking for ways for Roma to strengthen their offensive gameplan and playmaking from the back.

Moreover, Mourinho wants more stability and is intent on carrying out several experiments in the coming weeks before Roma’s official return to the pitch with Bologna on 4 January, reports Corriere della Sera.

In a four-man defense, Chris Smalling would untouchable. Mourinho would have to choose between Gianluca Mancini and Roger Ibanez.

Finally, the Italian newspaper informs that Roma’s latest signing, Ola Solbakken, will not be allowed to join the capital club before the expiry of his contract with Bodo/Glimt. The Norwegian attacker is expected to take part in Roma’s training activities starting on 2 January.
