Roma manager José Mourinho, reportedly, twice rejected the opportunity to return to Real Madrid in favor of keeping his post in the Italian capital.

Despite not having even touched down yet in the Eternal City, Mourinho was approached by the Spanish giants about the possibility of taking over for the recently departed Zinedine Zidane.

According to English outlet The Telegraph, Los Blancos reached out to the Portuguese technician late last week and then again this past weekend, hoping to convince him to return to the club.

However, their overtures were rebuffed by Mourinho’s representatives, who insisted that the 58 year-old is very excited to begin his new adventure with Roma and isn’t interested in returning.

After being rejected by the ‘Special One’, the Spanish side turned their attention to and quickly agreed a deal with another former manager: Everton’s Carlo Ancelotti.

Mourinho penned a three-year contract with the Giallorossi last month after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent the previous eighteen months.
