Mourinho remains Portugal’s first choice to replace Fernando Santos

Following the recent dismissal of Fernando Santos as Portugal’s manager after their exit from the World Cup, Portugal are targeting Roma boss Jose Mourinho for the managerial vacancy.

Sources from Portugal claim Mourinho is the favorite to land the job, but for now his Roma contract remains an obstacle as the idea of combining both club and country coaching duties is not feasible.

According to Record, there has been contact between the national team and the Special One as he remains their first choice.

For the time being, however, Mourinho’s priority and focus is the Italian club with which earlier in the year he’d held talks regarding a potential contract extension.
