The Spanish striker is reportedly Mourinho’s preferred choice to lead the attack for this upcoming season.
The Giallorossi have had an agreement in place with the ex-Juve man for several weeks.
However, Atletico’s excessive demands caused Roma to focus on other transfer targets.
Meanwhile, Corriere della Sera reports that Mourinho is willing to wait for Morata all the way until the end of the window.
According to the newspaper, Roma could soon find a transfer destination for either Roger Ibanez, Leonardo Spinazzola or Rick Karsdorp which would inevitably allow the club to fund an additional signing.
