Mourinho’s agent discusses Roma exit: “He loves the Giallorossi.”

Andy Mattioli

Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was asked to share insight on what went on between Roma and the Special One that led to his barupt exit.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mendes said this of his client’s sacking:

“José has a clear conscience. He wanted to continue working in Rome, he loves the Giallorossi.”

“I was surprised by Roma’s decision. I did not expect this to happen,” said Mendes. “Before going any further, however, allow me to say one thing. José was the first manager at United who won three trophies after the great cycle of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill, with a team that was not on the level of the one with Beckham and the other champions of the past.”

“José returned to Chelsea and won the Premier League again. With Tottenham he was sacked before playing in the Carabao Cup final. With him Roma won a European competition again (the 2021-22 Conference League, ed.) after I don’t know how many years. Mourinho is a winner.”

“The fans in football are always right and they love José. Not just the Roma fans, but all the fans where he worked.”

“Mourinho is very calm now, he’s conscience is at peace. He knows he worked hard and well despite Roma having a more limited squad than Inter and Juventus. He wanted to continue and was convinced that he would do well even if the situation was not easy.”

“Roma never called us to discuss the possibility of renewing his contract. There were never any negotiations for it,” he added.
