Roma extended their three-month long unbeaten run in Serie A thanks to more late match heroics.
Attacker Stephan El Shaarawy found the back of the net in injury time to draw the Giallorossi level 1-1 with Luciano Spalletti’s side. The Italian slotted past Napoli shot-stopper Alex Meret, capping off a beautiful action and assist from Tammy Abraham.
The result extends Roma’s unbeaten streak in Serie A, their last defeat occurring against Juventus in mid-January. It also deals a big blow to the Partenopei’s Scudetto ambitions as they fall four points behind leaders Milan.
Even though they’ll be disappointed, Napoli were lucky to walk away with any points. They were dominated throughout the second half by Jose Mourinho’s side and struggled to contain their attacking width.
“We deserved more,” El Shaarawy told DAZN at full-time.
“If we play with this spirit and with this desire to win, we can go far and fight for our still important objectives.”
“We’re on the right track, just like we saw in the second half. We played a tough game, we certainly deserved more.”
He added, “Tonight was just another demonstration that we don’t give up until the very end. As for me, a goal always gives you confidence, especially when you’re not playing or scoring consistently.”
“Finishing fourth? Until the math says otherwise, we’re going to keep fighting for the Champions League and do all we can until the very end.”
