The future of Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar continues to puzzle despite the summer transfer window nearing its conclusion.
The Spaniard, who joined Roma in January 2020, has been heavily linked with a potential exit after failing to convince manager José Mourinho during the preseason.
Several clubs expressed interest in the 23 year-old this summer, including Sassuolo, but no formal negotiations ever developed.
However, according to calciomercato.com, another Serie A club may try to acquire the ex-Elche man before Tuesday’s transfer deadline day.
The midfielder has, reportedly, emerged as a potential option for ex-Roma and current Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti. The Tuscan is said to be an admirer of Villar and believes he possesses the characteristics to balance his midfield.
