Napoli have reportedly joined Roma in the race for free agent Mats Hummels.

Napoli manager Antonio Conte has asked the club for an experienced defender to lead the team next season.

As a result, the Partenopei have Hummels in their sights.

The veteran centreback is fresh off a Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund and willing to move to Italy.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli contacted Hummels’ agent and inquired about his demands over a free transfer.

However, the newspaper reiterates that at the moment Roma are still the player’s favored destination.

Hummelas has been in talks with the Giallorossi over the last few days. He is deemed the ideal replacement of Chris Smalling who is rumored to be on his way out of the Italian capital, headed to the Saudi Pro League.
