Napoli win late over Cagliari in lead-up to next week’s Roma encounter

RomaPress Staff

Napoli temporarily leapfrogged Roma to go back into fourth place thanks to their late 2-1 victory over Cagliari this evening.

With the game scoreless entering the final 21 minutes, the two sides scored three goals within a six-minute span, trading barbs before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia found the winner in the 75th minute. The Georgia international connected on Victor Osimhen’s delivery after the striker’s sensational solo run to secure a win for the Partnopei and snap their two-match skid

Not long thereafter, the hosts thought they added a third goal through Matteo Politano, but he was ultimately determined offside.

The victory gives Napoli some momentum ahead of their Coppa Italia clash against Frosinone on Tuesday and a Serie A encounter with Roma next Saturday.
