Napoli’s Juan Jesus: “I resemble the former Roma defender Juan.”

Napoli defender and ex-Roma man Juan Jesus compared himself to one of the more remarkable Brazilian centrebacks to have represented the Giallorossi colors.

During an interview with Betsson Sport, Jesus looked back on his career and drew comparisons with important defenders in Italian football, Lucio (who, like Jesus, played for Inter) and Juan (who played for Roma for several years between 2007 and 2012).

“I spent 5 wonderful years with the Nerazzurri and 5 wonderful years with the Giallorossi, now I’ve been here in Naples for 3 years, I won the Scudetto 33 years after the last time. I think I’ve had a great career,” said Jesus.

“At the beginning I was very similar to Lucio, for me he was a point of reference. A giant and an idol,” he added. “In the national team when I was young they compared us, perhaps because I was a little taller, physically strong, I stole the ball from the opponent, I dribbled past everyone. Then we played together at Inter, for me it was an honor.”

“Today I am more like Juan who played for Roma, who is more cautious, more tactical, more technical. After 10 years of career we grow, we learn, I keep the two of them as points of reference even if they have won everything.”
