Nemanja Matic faked injury prior to Rennes move

More details have emerged with regards to Nemanja Matic’s surprise move to Stade Rennais.

The Serbian midfielder’s sudden decision to depart Roma less than two weeks from the start of the new season sparked plenty of controversy both outside and inside Roma’s training facilities.

As reported by La Repubblica, Nemanja Matic’s decision was motivated primarily due to personal reasons. However, the veteran and one of Mourinho’s most trusted players never discussed his own concerns with the club prior to the decision to accept Rennes’ long-term offer.

The Italian newspaper claims that during Roma’s pre-season tour in Portugal, Matic faked an injury, refusing to train with the rest of the team and was thus excluded from Roma’s remaining friendlies.

Jose Mourinho did not take too kindly to this behavior once Matic’s intent on departing the club was revealed just a few days ago. The Portuguese technician is said to be extremely upset with Matic whom he considered one of his closest allies.
