Nemanja Matic speaks ahead of Roma’s friendly with Nagoya Grampus

Roma midfielder Nemanja Matic featured in today’s press conference alongside Jose Mourinho to discuss the club’s upcoming friendlies with Nagoya Grampus and Yokohama Marinos scheduled to take place in Tokyo.

“I want to congratulate you on the great victory [Germany-Japan], I’m happy because the winning goal was scored by a player I knew in Belgrade. Honestly nobody thought Japan could win, but in football anything is possible.”

“My future in Japan? I know some Serbian players play here, I like to keep the door open for future opportunities, but I don’t know what will happen.”

“It’s my first time in Japan. Now I am focused on Roma, but who knows, maybe in the future.”

“Serie A seems competitive to me, the teams are at a good level and you never know if you’ll be able to win. Aside from Napoli who started really well, it’s always a battle. It will be an interesting season.”

“I think I’ve played almost every single game since coming to Roma, perhaps not always from the beginning, but to be honest when I signed I thought I was going to play a lot anyway. To me it doesn’t matter if it’s one or ninety minutes, I just hope to stay healthy and do my job well.”

“I’m currently studying to become a coach. I have no plans for the future, I still have a few years as a player left in my legs. I’ve already played with Mourinho, and although everyone is improving and updating their coaching methods, he still has special qualities.”
