Nicola Zalewski denies involvement in illegal betting scandal

Roma wide man Nicola Zalewski found himself at the center of the latest controversy surrounding certain footballers in Italy.

The 21-year-old was accused by news agency Dillinger News of being involved in illegal betting activities, similarly to some other high profile players in the country including Nicolo Fagioli, Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo.

Zalewski’s name was the latest one to be added to the list.

However, TVP Sport reports that the player – who is currently on international duty with Poland’s U21 squad – strongly denies any involvement. Zalewski has already communicated his position to his agents and Roma.

The director of Communications of the Polish Federation (PZPN), Tomasz Kozlowski, clarified the situation: “We are in contact with Roma and they have not received any documents regarding Nicola Zalewski.”
