Roma defender Nicola Zalewski initially started last night’s game on the left flank, but as Zeki Celik went down with an injury less than minutes into the match, the Polish international was told by Jose Mourinho to switch to the right flank. Zalewski proved to be one of the few bright spots in Roma’s 2-1 defeat to Real Betis.
“There is a feeling of regret in the dressing room,” Zalewski told Sky Sport after the final whistle. “We created a lot and conceded very little.”
“We have to manage the game better, and handle certain episodes more calmly. Tonight we saw how details can make the difference in the end.”
“We’re a good team, but we’re growing and these incidents are also part of the learning process.”
On replacing Celik on the right, Zalewski commented, “Last year I played on the right when we faced Juventus. If there is this opportunity, I must make myself available to the coach.”
