Roma fullback Nicola Zalewski discussed the momentum behind his successful penalty in the team’s winning penalty shootout against Feyenoord.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sport, Zalewski reflected on his performance and the decision to take the penalty.
“I was calm and knew more or less where I would aim for. Yesterday we tried taking penalties in training. I knew I had to pick a corner and make it powerful. We had studied their goalkeeper, who is someone who pushes a lot but stays low. I tried to raise it a little and it worked fine.”
“I don’t think I did too well tonight. I came in and tried to give my best. I made some bad decisions. I joked with an employee at the end of the match and told him that every 4 offsides I have to score a decisive penalty. I even slipped once. The important thing is that it went well and not think about it too much.”
“De Rossi’s arrival? When you change coach there is no time to waste. When he sends you onto the field, you must immediately be mean and concrete. I’ve been missing this lately but the coach gives me confidence and my teammates believe in me, so I’m not afraid of coming up short.”
