Roma wide Nicola Zalewski found himself at the center of accusations corresponding to the latest illegal betting scandal in Italy.
The Polish international was among the latest names to be added to a list of those reportedly involved in illegal betting activities – betting on illegal online platforms.
However, after denying these allegations, Zalewski is currently not being investigated, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The newspaper cites insufficient evidence of his involvement as the primary reason why Italian authorities never pursued investigation unlike with others accused of the same illegal activity including Nicolo Fagioli, Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo.
The authorities will keep monitoring Zalewski’s electronic devices and in particular certain chats the player may have been a part of.
In the meantime, Roma have already provided the 21-year-old with a lawyer, and his entourage are considering pursuing legal action against Dillinger News editor Fabrizio Corona – the man responsible for putting Zalewski’s name out in the open.
