Nicolas Burdisso, Francois Modesto leading the race for Roma’s sporting director vacancy

Andy Mattioli

Roma have narrowed down their search for their new sporting director.

According to today’s report by Il Messaggero, the capital club are intent on picking their preferred candidate for the job in the coming weeks, with the plan to announce the new executive by the end of the season.

The newspaper suggest that it is a two-man race between Nicola Burdisso and Francois Modesto.

Although Modesto remains Roma CEO Lina Souloukou’s preferred choice, Burdisso has gotten close to overtaking the Frenchman thanks to his excellent rapport with Daniele De Rossi.

De Rossi is said to have asked the club to consider Burdisso – the Argentine executive is set to leave Fiorentina at the end of the season and is willing to consider the Giallorossi as a valid option ahead of the summer.
