Nine arrested in connection to the Stadio della Roma

Despite the Stadio della Roma getting nearer and nearer, problems have been encountered today.

As reported by La Repubblica, nine individuals who are involved in the construction of the stadium have been arrested by the Carabinieri after an investigation into coirrupt conduct was launched by the Prosecutor’s Office of Rome. The individuals range from politicians to entrepreneurs and include Stadio della Roma contractor and real estate mogul Luca Parnasi. Sky TG24 have reported that nobody at AS Roma is involved in the investigation.

Meanwhile, Rome mayor Virginia Raggi spoke to Ansa regarding the matter:

“Whoever has done wrong will pay, we are on the side of legality. The Prosecutor will have a press conference at 12.00 so we’ll wait to express any opinion. If everything is regular, I hope that the stadium project can move forward”.

Futhermore, Il Romanista has revealed that the first  affects of this investigation are already being felt: the Municipality will be forced to suspend the procedure to approve for the Variante al Piano Regolatore Generale (planning committee) while the necessary clarifications are provided by the Prosecutor. Once regularity has been established, only then can the administrative procedures continue. Should any irregularities be found, the entire project is at risk.
