Nzonzi arrives in Rome, undergoes preseason medical

Roma midfielder Steven Nzonzi arrived in the Italian capital this afternoon to undergo his preseason medical examination at Villa Stuart.

Nzonzi spent the previous eighteen months on loan at Rennes, playing an important role for the Ligue 1 side during his tenure. However, the club decided against making his loan move permanent, which they have had the option to do.

Roma have already informed Nzonzi that he is not in their plans for the upcoming season and is free to find a new club. He was in talks with Benfica earlier this month about possibly joining the club on a permanent deal.

However, the midfielder ultimately rejected the proposal from the Portuguese giants.

Following his medical, the midfielder will train individually at Roma’s training center alongside the other players who weren’t called-up for the team’s preseason retreat by manager José Mourinho.
