Nzonzi close to Benfica, Santon on way out

Tiago Pinto is currently hard at work to reduce Roma’s wage bill. La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that Nzonzi and Santon may be the next ones in line to leave after Bruno Peres, Juan Jesus and Antonio Mirante departed earlier this month on a free. Mourinho made it clear he does not intend on working with them.

The Italian fullback – whose career was kick-started by Mourinho himself during his time at Inter – is close to leaving via contract termination. The club and the player are looking to find an agreement in the coming days. As for Nzonzi, the French midfielder has drawn considerable interest from Benfica. Pinto’s former club plans to capitalize on the good relations with Roma’s General Manager. As a result, the Portuguese side is a real option for Nzonzi whose adventure at Rennes came to an end earlier this month.

Finally, Pau Lopez may be on his way out, too. His agent is looking for feasible solutions, including moving to Barcelona to play behind ter Stegen. A lot will depend on Lopez’s recovery from his recent injury.
