Nzonzi nearing Al Rayyan move

After months of negotiations and discussions, midfielder Steven Nzonzi is finally close to leaving Roma for good.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Frenchman is close to accepting a deal with Al Rayyan despite refusing multiple offers from the club throughout the summer.

The Qatari side remained persistent in their pursuit of Nzonzi and finally received the “OK” from the midfielder within the last few hours. The parties are working to formalise the deal and there’s optimism that it could be completed in the coming hours.

Nzonzi’s departure would come as a big boost for Roma, who spent much of the summer trying to offload the veteran in order to get his huge wages off their books.

The former Rennes man earns €5.7 million in gross wages per year, which makes him one of the highest paid players at Roma.
