RomaPress – Out-of-favor midfielder Steven Nzonzi is closer than ever to officially leaving Roma, but there’s still work to be done before his exit can be finalised.
The Frenchman, who’s currently frozen out of the Giallorossi’s first team, touched down in Qatar today and successfully underwent a medical examination with Al Rayyan, who are managed by Laurent Blanc.
Nzonzi already has an agreement in place with the club for a two-year contract, however, before completing his move to the Qatari side, he must agree to terminate his contract with Roma despite one year remaining.
His agent and father, Fidele, along with two intermediaries, are seeking a buonuscita (“payoff”), from the Giallorossi worth over €2 million.
Roma have no intention of paying this amount and even want Nzonzi to renounce the wages that he’s due from the month of September.
The parties remain locked in negotiations but both sides believe they’ll be able to overcome this impasse within the coming hours.
