Ahead of their league meeting tomorrow evening against Roma, Hellas Verona announced they officially sold top scorer Cyril Ngonge to Napoli.

Both clubs announced the deal late this evening after the Belgian completed his medical examinations yesterday at Villa Stuart hospital in Rome. According to reports from Sky Sport, the reigning champions have agreed to a transfer fee of €20 million plus bonuses for the 23-year-old. Notably, Ngonge had initially joined Verona less than a year ago on a free transfer.

Manager Marco Baroni commented on the Belgian’s departure during his pre-match press conference, admitting his absence will be felt given he was their top scorer with 6 goals and 2 assists in 19 appearances.

“Clearly it’s an important loss. We’re losing a player that has given a lot,” lamented Baroni.

“However, economic conditions arose that made it difficult for the club to ignore this offer (from Napoli) for the player. But now we need to focus on the players that are here.”
