Roma have welcomed another acquisition. Fullback Davide Zappacosta was announced as the Giallorossi’s latest reinforcement as he joins from Chelsea on loan for six months with an option to extend the loan a further six months in January 2020. Here is the full announcement from Roma:
AS Roma are pleased to confirm the signing of Davide Zappacosta from Chelsea on a temporary deal. Zappacosta joins the Giallorossi from the English club on an initial six-month loan which runs until January 2020. As part of the deal, there is the option to extend the loan until 30 June 2020.
“I am pleased to join Roma, after an experience overseas that helped me progress as both a player and a person,” Zappacosta said. “Being able to play for a great club like this is a huge motivation – I cannot wait to start training alongside my new teammates.”
Zappacosta moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2017 from Torino – going on to win the FA Cup and Europa League in his two seasons with the Premier League side.
“I’m pleased to be able to have Davide on my team once again,” said club sporting director Gianluca Petrachi, who worked with Zappacosta at Torino. “Compared with the player that I knew at Torino, now Roma are getting a player who has matured both as a player and a person after a valuable spell in another league. I am certain that Davide will be able to make an important contribution during the course of the season.”
Zappacosta will wear the No. 2 shirt at Roma. He is the club’s seventh addition of the summer, following the arrivals of Leonardo Spinazzola, Amadou Diawara, Gianluca Mancini, Pau Lopez, Jordan Veretout and Mert Cetin.
