Official: Empoli sack coach Paolo Zanetti after 7-0 loss to Roma

Empoli have opted for a managerial change following their humiliating 7-0 loss against Roma on Sunday at the Stadio Olimpico.

Early this afternoon, the Tuscans announced they’ve sacked manager Paolo Zanetti and three members of his staff including Alberto Bertolini, Nicola Beati, and Fabio Trentin.

“Empoli Football Club confirms it has relieved Paolo Zanetti of his duties in his role as manager of the club’s senior squad,” wrote the club.

“The club gives its most sincere thanks and gratitude go to Mister Zanetti, protagonist of the path that led us to salvation last season. We wish him and his staff the best of luck in their sporting and personal futures.”

The decision comes just one day after Empoli’s senior management met to take stock of their situation given they sit bottom of the table and still haven’t scored a goal through four league games.

As Zanetti’s replacement, multiple outlets claim Empoli have set their sights on ex-Roma coach Aurelio Andreazzoli.
