Roma have officially announced the acquisition of Aleksandar Kolarov, who is the seventh purchase of Monchi since his arrival in the capital. Here is the full communication:
The club is pleased to confirm the signing of defender Aleksandar Kolarov from English side Manchester City. Kolarov joins the Giallorossi on a permanent transfer for a fee of €5 million. The 31-year-old has signed a three-year contract that runs until 30 June 2020.
“I am extremely happy to be here,” Kolarov said. “I will give 100 per cent and more for Roma. My objective is always the same: to win.”
Kolarov, who has over 60 caps at international level for Serbia, has spent the last seven seasons with Manchester City – winning the Premier League twice during that period, in 2012 and 2014.
He also won the FA Cup once (in 2011) and League Cup twice (in 2014 and 2016), going on to make almost 250 appearances for the club in all competitions.
“Aleksandar is a player with vast experience who can immediately contribute to the team,” the club’s sporting director, Monchi, said. “I believe he will help us develop, on and off the pitch. I want to thank him for the enthusiasm and willingness he has shown in wanting to come to Roma.”
An attack-minded left-back, during his time at Manchester City Kolarov also occasionally operated as a centre-back and left midfielder. A powerful and athletic presence, he is also known for his threat from set-pieces.
