Just two months after Jose Mourinho’s exit from Roma, rivals Lazio announced they’ve accepted the resignation of manager Maurizio Sarri. The announcement comes on the heels of the Biancocelesti’s 2-1 home defeat to Udinese and marks the end of the 65 year-old’s tenure.
The club announced the news in a statement on Wednesday afternoon and expressed gratitude towards Sarri for his contributions before wishing him well in his future endeavors.
Lazio subsequently named one of Sarri’s top assistants, Giovanni Martusciello, as his replacement. The move marks Martusciello’s second stint as a head coach and his first in nearly seven years after a brief stint with Empoli.
His first game in charge is this Saturday when the Biancocelesti travel to face Frosinone.
