Official: Smalling to remain with Roma thru July

Manchester United announced this afternoon that Chris Smalling will remain with Roma for the remainder of the 2019/20 domestic campaign in Italy.

The defender will stay at the Stadio Olimpico for the rest of the Serie A season, which is currently scheduled to last until the beginning of August, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement now puts into question the availability of the Englishman for the Giallorossi’s early-August Europa League showdown against Sevilla.

Roma remain engaged in talks with the Red Devils on a permanent move for Smalling, however, should an agreement not be reached — they will likely have to do without him for their European match.
