Following the dubious penalty decision awarded to Fiorentina this past weekend, referee Daniele Orsato, the referee in charge of VAR for the fixture, will be be assigned to Roma matches for some time, according to Il Tempo.
Orsato opted not to utilise VAR in the penalty decision, which Luca Banti, the referee on the pitch, awarded. Following the decision, Roma sporting director Ramon Monchi hit out and attacked Orsato for refusing to use VAR to review the penalty, which ultimately doomed Roma in the 1-1 result. In response, Orsato won’t be assigned in any capacity to any Roma matches for the foreseeable future – whether it’s on the pitch or as the man in charge of VAR.
