Roma president James Pallotta spoke to both Il Messaggero and ANSA after rumors surfaced that Francesco Totti offered to the club to play for free next season (and donating his wages to charity) but that the club directors refused, here are his words:
“This is clearly a lie. It’s absolutely not true and it never happened. Someone is trying to dirty the name of one of the greatest players of all time.”
He continued, “It’s simply not true. It must be an April Fools joke. This kind of proposal is equivalent to insulting one of the greatest players of all time. It’s nobody’s business of what is discussed between Francesco and I. No one knows anything about what we say: only him and I.”
