Former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca – now at the helm of French side Lille in Ligue 1 – was asked to speak about his time in the Italian capital and compare the likes of Jose Mourinho and Maurizio Sarri ahead of tonight’s Derby.
“Roma represents a unique opportunity in a coach’s career,” Fonseca remarked in an interview with Sky Sport. “To be able to experience those feelings, experience the city itself… “
“The Derby in Rome is something completely different. I continue to love the city and the supporters. They all have a very, very special place in my heart.”
“Mourinho and Sarri? If we speak in purely footballing terms I’ve always maintained that Sarri is a coach I very much like for his style of play. And today I can’t say the opposite. I’m much closer to Sarri’s way of playing than I am to Mourinho’s.”
“This is not a criticism to Mourinho or other managers, it’s simply a way of playing that I identify more with.”
