Ex-Roma man and current Lazio winger Pedro discussed his difficult rapport with Jose Mourinho as well as his exit from Roma in 2021.
In a recent interview with Sportitalia, Pedro analyzed his history with the former Chelsea manager.
“He’s a coach whom I have always respected. He is a strong coach who has won many trophies in his career. At Chelsea he gave me the opportunity to play in a beautiful team, as well as win many trophies together and for this I thank him.”
Regarding Mourinho’s criticism of his apparent diving in the latest Derby della Capitale, Pedro said, “That makes me laugh. Because we all know what Mou is like, he has done it in the past too. He says one thing, then he says another.”
“I remember when we won against his Real Madrid he said other things, when we beat his United 4-0 (I was at Chelsea), he said even more things. Last year, in the Rome derbies, he once again talked plenty. It’s always like this, when he doesn’t talk about the referee he talks about the calendar, or about a player who throws himself to the ground.”
“I know him very well, he is a very funny man. I took it with great fairness because I know that he uses words to diffuse the great tension of the derby. I know him very well, having had him as a coach.”
“My exit from Roma? I certainly hadn’t been good enough during my one season there, but I still don’t know why I was sent away. I guess those are things that can happen.”
