Roma CEO Guido Fienga and newly acquired attacker Pedro, who joined the Giallorossi on a free transfer from Chelsea, spoke at a press conference today as the Spaniard was officially unveiled following his arrival.

“We are very happy to officially present Pedro. We were quite pleased when he said ‘yes’ and decided to choose Roma. Having him in our team means we’ve added someone with an abundance of knowledge and ability,” said Fienga.

“I’m very happy with how he’s fit in. One of the tasks we’ve entrusted to him is to be a leader and teacher, and pass on the skills and values he learned throughout his career. I can’t emphasise enough how pleased we are as a club to have him”.

“First off, I’d like to thank Guido for the kind words,” began the Spaniard. “I’m happy to be here”.

The former Barcelona man was then asked about how he sees himself fitting into manager Paulo Fonseca’s system of play.

“In this system, my best role is behind the striker. I feel good there, I will adapt, though, and play wherever the manager deems appropriate. I want to help the team and do what I’ve done throughout my career at Roma”.

“We are a good team with talented youngsters and then there’s also guys like Edin and Mkhi here — I decided to come here to help create a winning mentality. Getting back into the Champions League is one of the objectives as is building a stronger squad”.

“I faced Roma at the Olimpico when I was at Chelsea — they were very strong. We have a good mix of experienced and younger players”.

“Why Roma? The motivation is the same for me: to win and achieve objectives. It’s going to be difficult, but this is what we will work for game by game. You need a strong and winning mentality in order to reach the Champions League. We have the right squad to do this. For me, this objective should be the minimum”.

“How’s Dzeko? He seems happy, he is our captain and is still at an incredibly high level as a player. He brings a very important weight into the dressing room and we’re happy that he’s remaining. He scores goals and can be the difference betwee winning a match. His presence, along with others, will help us reach our goals. He is concentrated and I hope he can play a good match on Sunday”.
