Lorenzo Pellegrini is set to be Roma’s captain for years to come.

The Roman-born midfielder has been in talks over a contract extension for months, with General Manager Tiago Pinto and boss Jose Mourinho wanting to put him at the center of the club’s project at all costs.

The Special One has expressed his confidence in the player signing his extension soon.

With his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2022, Il Tempo reports that next week may be crucial for the 25-year-old’s future.

The captain is expected to sign the contract renewal until 2026 after disputing the derby on Sunday. He will become Roma’s highest earner along with Tammy Abraham.

Right now, Pellegrini prefers to focus on the two games that await Roma following their first loss of the season at Verona: Udinese on Thursday and Lazio on Sunday.
