Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini was interviewed today by Sky Sport ahead of this weekend’s match against his former side Sassuolo. These are his words:
Mancini put you on the left wing with the Azzurri.
I don’t know where my versatility comes from. I try to improve every day. I am glad to be able to play many roles because it allows me to give the manager problems in choosing.
In the game of your life, which role would you prefer to play in?
I see myself in the trequartista role, where you have more freedom.
Now there’s Sassuolo.
It should be a one-way test: we have to win. It’s fundamental for us, especially given that we’re playing at home. The supporters contribution will be important. Sassuolo was a wonderful experience for me but all I’m thinking about is winning against them.
At what point is adaptation to Fonseca’s work?
We are working every day. I really like what he asks of us because he wants us to control the game — it’s time for us to win.
What can the new arrivals such as Mkhitaryan and Smalling give to Roma?
Certainly they give us some experience. They are excellent players who can help us since they are very good. Even us who have only played in Italy can give something. We are working on forming a tight group on and off the pitch.
Where does Roma need to arrive by the end of this season?
We want to improve but it’s fair to say Roma should play in the Champions League. We shouldn’t limit ourselves but that should be our goal.
