According to Il Corriere Dello Sport, Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini may be nearing the long-awaited contract renewal. This would be an important step for the 25-year-old midfielder whose contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022.

The newspaper suggests this week may prove crucial for Pellegrini, his agent and Pinto in opening talks regarding a contract extension with higher wages: currently Roma’s number 7 earns less than the likes of Diawara, Fazio, Under and Kluivert. Therefore, the objective is to increase his wages and establish Pellegrini as one of Roma’s top players.

Pinto is set to express the willingness of the club: to make Pellegrini one of next season’s main protagonists under Mourinho. The player recently promoted in a photo-shooting session the Roman club’s new shirt for the upcoming season. The shirt, with his name and team number, will soon be available in stores. Thus, despite the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool expressing interest in the player, Pellegrini’s main ambition (and priority) is to find an agreement with Roma and continue to lead his boyhood club.
