Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini was dealt a huge blow this morning after it was revealed he will be forced to miss this summer’s Euro 2020 competition.
The Roman re-aggravated the thigh injury that he suffered last month during the latter stages of the Serie A campaign. Italy national team manager Roberto Mancini has already called-up Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli to replace him, and it remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined by the injury.
The 24 year-old took to Instagram this afternoon to lament the news, just one day ahead of Italy’s opening fixture against Turkey.
“Unfortunately, this wretched thigh problem won’t allow me to participate in the Euros,” he wrote.
“There’s a ton of bitterness within me at this moment, but now is the time for us to come together and support this fantastic group of real men, who will certainly give everything they’ve got from start to finish.”
He added, “Forza Italia! Come on lads, everyone together!”
