Pellegrini: “Today was worth more than three points and we squandered it, but it wasn’t because of lack of attitude.”

Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini seemed to reject Paulo Fonseca’s belief that his team lacked attitude in their 2-0 loss tonight to Napoli.

The Giallorossi were, once again, handed a defeat by one of Italy’s top six sides and their hopes for a top four finish seem nearly over.

“I don’t feel like saying that there was no attitude on the part of myself or my teammates,” said Pellegrini to Roma TV.

“We just let ourselves drop too much, we did a bit better in the second half but it was too late. Though, we didn’t plan on pressing high during our preparations for the match. On behalf of my teammates, I can assure you that we prepared for this match as a chance to show our qualities.”

“Winning today was worth more than just three points, there was a lot on the line and we squandered it. It was supposed to be a match to show our ambitions but it didn’t go our way.”
