With the Euros finally over and Roma’s pre-season training underway, Lorenzo Pellegrini is nearing his much talked about contract extension. The Roma captain whose current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022 has been the subject of numerous discussions within the club.

Tiago Pinto, Roma’s General Manager, made the extension a priority in light of Pellegrini’s most recent season with Roma: the 25-year-old took over the captain’s arm-band from Edin Dzeko and finished the campaign with 14 goals and 9 assists across all competitions.

After meeting with José Mourinho for the first time last week, Pellegrini was convinced of the manager’s plans for him and the club.

Il Messaggero reports that the midfielder’s entourage, lead by his agent, Giampiero Pocetta, will meet with Pinto to discuss the details of the new contract later this week. The General Manager wants to make these discussions a priority for the forecoming weeks with the club planning to make the renewal official by the end of July.
