Petrachi interested in Mainz defender Moussa Niakhaté

With the future of Chris Smalling at Roma remaining a major question mark, the Giallorossi are eyeing potential reinforcements for the summer.

La Repubblica reports that one of the names that Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi likes is Mainz defender Moussa Niakhaté.

The 24 year-old French defender has 25 appearances in all competitions this season for the German side — garnering 2 assists.

The reported asking price for the defender would be around €11 million — a figure significantly less than what Manchester United has been requesting from the Italian side to make Chris Smalling’s loan move a permanent one.

Both the Giallorossi and the Englishman would prefer to carry on together — but the Red Devils could ultimately price-out the Serie A side.
