RomaPress – Mats Hummels landed in Rome today to begin the next chapter of his storied career.
The veteran defender landed at Fiumicino Airport around 12.30 CET on Wednesday afternoon—just hours after representatives reached an agreement with Roma on a one-year contract worth €2.5 million [net].
Club officials quickly shuttled the 35 year-old into an awaiting vehicle so he could promptly begin his medical examinations. Squads for the UEFA Europa League league phase must be submitted before midnight today, 4-September.
Once completed, he’ll sign his contract and officially become the newest transfer acquisition for Daniele De Rossi’s side.

The deal marks Hummels’ first move abroad—having spent his entire club career in Germany, securing five Bundesliga titles across two stints with Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
The veteran held discussions with several clubs in recent weeks, nearly joining Real Sociedad. However, Roma moved quickly over the last few days to secure his services following the departure of Chris Smalling for Saudi side Al-Fayha.
