Although tomorrow marks the official start to Roma’s pre-season, some of the club’s key players are already present at Trigoria and have been training individually for the past week. Among those is Lorenzo Pellegrini who is recovering from a muscular injury sustained around a month ago. The injury forced him to forfeit the Euros, a competition which the 25-year-old midfielder had wanted to participate in all along. This bitter episode, however, motivated Pellegrini’s entourage to reach out to Tiago Pinto in order to discuss a contract renewal.
With Pellegrini’s contract expiring a year from now, Corriere Dello Sport reports that Tiago Pinto has made it clear to Giampiero Pocetta, the player’s agent, that he aims to prioritize the team captain’s extension before the end of the summer. Thus, all other players including Mancini, Veretout, Villar, Cristante and Darboe and discussions related to their respective renewals will be put on hold in favor of Roma’s number 7. Pinto has reassured the players’ agents that talks will resume once the market is closed.
For now, Pellegrini remains Roma’s top priority. Next week, Pinto along with Pocetta will set a date for Pellegrini’s official renewal. The captain already spoke to Mourinho and the two expressed mutual willingness in working together for the foreseeable future.
