Speaking ahead of kick-off, Roma general manager Tiago Pinto was asked about the futures of Jose Mourinho and Paulo Dybala before the team’s Europa League showdown against Feyenoord.
The Portuguese executive refused to speculate on what the following months could hold for the pair, insisting they’re only focused on the present.
“All I’ll say about Paulo’s future is that he’ll be playing today, that’s all that matters,” he told Sky Sport.
“It’s a shame that a club like Roma managed to sign Dybala despite a ton of competition and the only discussed recently is his future. I can’t say anything more because we all know how much can happen during any transfer market period.”
He added, “Let’s enjoy Dybala a bit more. I don’t even know about my own future let alone Paulo’s so it’s pointless to speculate.”
He also addressed the rumors concerning Chris Smalling’s imminent contract renewal and the whispers that the club have already agreed to a deal with soon-to-be free agent Houssem Aouar from Lyon.
“Are Roma in pole position for Aouar? I don’t want to be like Ferrari and earn several poles but not finish well,” he joked.
“All kidding aside, let me talk about Chris quickly: we’ve never hidden the fact both he and the club want to continue together. Though, I think there will be updates next week.”
Adding, “As for Aouar, it’s not the time to talk about it. He’s been linked to Roma for awhile now–he’s a great player but we’ll see what the future holds. I can deny that he’s already undergone a medical.”
