The Portuguese federation have identified Jose Mourinho as their primary choice to succeed ex-manager Fernando Santos.
The Special One’s entourage have been in contact with the federation’s president, Fernando Gomes, and are evaluating the proposal.
According to Sky Sport, Portugal await Mourinho’s answer before the New Year.
The federation’s idea is to temporarily hand over the national team to U21 coach Rui Jorge in order to make Mourinho’s appointment official in July.
