It has been quite the week for Felix Afena-Gyan.
The 18-year-old Primavera player went from scoring in Roma’s youth league to making his senior debut vs Cagliari, and featuring in the second half of Roma’s loss to Milan at the Olimpico.
Ghana’s national football team took notice of it.
According to journalist Owuraku Ampofo, the player has been invited to join the national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers vs Ethiopia and South Africa.
Roma have reportedly rejected this approach as the club fear this might disrupt the 18-year-old’s development.
Furthermore, the Giallorossi do not want to end up losing him in January for AFCON.
Jose Mourinho has already stated in yesterday’s press conference that Felix represents a valid alternative for the team, with a skillset that, if developed correctly, could come in handy for the club long-term: “He has qualities that we don’t have. He looks for movements that we don’t do as much.”
