Former Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan was once again asked to comment on his time in the Italian capital, where he became one of Europe’s best box-to-box midfielders with a magnificent 16/17 season under ex-Roma coach Luciano Spalletti.
“Roma was the brightest highlight of my career. That’s where I felt the strongest emotions,” he told Fanpage.
“On a personal level it was difficult to leave because I was very fond of the city, the team and its fans.”
“Choices must be made in life, even if in hindsight I think it was the wrong choice because I had built a great relationship with Rome.”
“Spalletti was used to playing with a trequartista like Totti, while today he does the same with Zieliński, who has much more quality than me.”
“It was different with me because in that case I was the first to press the opponent together with the striker. That year we recorded Roma’s best points total in Serie A.”
“If that Roma had rivalled today’s Juve then, we could have won the Scudetto. But in those years Juve was unbeatable. Today Juve is still strong, but in those years it was devastating.”
