After wasting several high quality goalscoring opportunities throughout the match, Roma were punished by RB Salzburg in the dying moments of their first leg Europa League tie.

Nicolás Capaldo scored in the 88th minute to secure a 1-0 victory for the Austrians entering next week’s return leg in the Italian capital.

The result will undoubtedly frustrate manager Jose Mourinho after his side dominated the affair yet still couldn’t find the back of the net.

Roma had plenty of chances to take an early lead, the best coming in the first half after Bryan Cristante delivered a gem of a pass to Tammy Abraham, who failed to convert.

The midfielder who have a chance of his own just after the halftime break but he was denied by the post. But the most frustrating moment would come in the 80th minute when Andrea Belotti’s close range shot from a corner was saved by Phillip Kohn.

The two sides meet again next week in the Italian capital for the return leg.
