The head referee designator of Serie A and Serie B, Gianluca Rocchi, met with Sportitalia recently to reflect on the past Serie A campaign as well as the changes to be expected in the 22/23 season.
“Given also the time of this year’s preparation, in a phase close to the start of the league, the referees have arrived already well prepared, as we have verified from the first tests. We are satisfied with our team,” said Rocchi.
When asked about the numerous complaints regarding refereeing episodes in Serie A’s 21/22 campaign, Rocchi replied, “Last season was one for the history books in terms of refereeing decisions.”
“Our team of referees have shown that they are 100% athletes and we are really happy with their physical quality: they are ready. I’m telling the truth, when I look at them I understand that I’m working with really great athletes.”
