Renato Sanches hopes to start in Rome derby

Renato Sanches is hoping to earn significant minutes in today’s highly anticipated Derby della Capitale with Lazio.

The Portuguese midfielder was recently able to return from a muscular injury that had kept him out of action for almost two months.

After making two cameo appearances in the final minutes of Roma-Lecce and the defeat to Slavia Praha, Sanches is now hoping to be given a more important role in tonight’s derby.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Sanches could be Mourinho’s ace up his sleeve given his unusual characteristics as a box-to-box midfielder – something Roma sorely lack at this point in time.

In fact, the newspaper claims Edoardo Bove could be headed to the bench after playing the full 90 minutes against Slavia. As a result, Sanches is hoping to play at least 45 minutes tonight, helping Roma bounce back from Thursday night’s horror show in Prague.
