Roma are eyeing Rennes defender Arthur Theate ahead of the January window.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are monitoring various defenders all over Europe in order to further strengthen Jose Mourinho’s backline for the remainder of the season.

Smalling’s prolonged absence and Ndicka’s imminent departure for AFCON have prompted the capital club to consider different options for the January window.

The newspaper claims that Rennes centreback Arthur Theate is Roma’s favorite candidate for the job due to his age (23 years old) and adaptability on the pitch.

For the moment, Rennes do not seem keen on letting Theate go in January, but could ultimately consider an important offer.

Fiorentina have made inquiries for the ex-Bologna defender.
